Meet Rebecca

Rebecca Anstine Smith has enjoyed a distinguished career as a professional harpist and teacher for over 25 years.

Currently Rebecca  takes great joy in providing harp lessons to students of all ages and levels.

Mrs. Smith holds  Bachelor of Arts degrees in music and in French, magna cum laude, with departmental honors in music. 

Upon graduation, Rebecca studied with Jeanne Chalifoux at the Peabody Conservatory.  There she received the Master of Music degree in harp performance. 

For many summers Rebecca studied with Alice Chalifoux at the Salzedo Summer Harp Colony in Camden, Maine. She also studied at Tanglewood with Lucile Lawrence

Rebecca's teaching credits include, Howard University, the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, George Washington University, and the University of Maryland, College Park. Currently she teaches at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Anne Arundel Community College.

Rebecca's harp playing is featured on two recordings available on CD:

  • Benjamin BrittenA Ceremony of Carols with the Washington National Cathedral Choir
  • Rising at Dawn: Chamber Music with Brass by Carson Cooman
     

Rebecca has presented workshops and Master Classes in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia. She now offers harp lessons at her home in Crofton and in Stevensville on Kent Island.
